Stephanie Bastos has been dancing since the age of 5. She was a senior in high school at the prestigious New World School for the Arts when she lost her leg below the knee in a car accident. At that point, Stephanie was dancing with the acclaimed Isadora Duncan Dance Company and on her way to a professional dance career.
While many would have given up their dream, Stephanie stopped dancing for a mere two months. Once she was fit with her prosthetic limb, she immediately began dancing and hasn’t stopped.
Today, she is a professional dancer with two dance groups, Deep Waters Dance Theaters and a brazilian dance company called “Aguas da Bahia”. She is she also the Rehearsal Director for Deep Waters and holds a leadership role with Aguas da Bahia. In addition to being a performance artist, she somehow finds the time to teach dance to middle school students.
